New workshops & Classes
Join Amelia from 7-9 at The Lodge Of Heavy Leisure in Boscombe on the 13th of October
The evening will be dedicated to building a ceramic piece of your own and Amelia will give a demonstration on the best hand building techniques for you to use. Feel free to come with your own ideas of what you’d like to make!
There will also be pottery paints you can finish your pieces with!
Your piece will then be fired and glazed in a transparent food-safe glaze for you to collect 4-5 weeks later from The Lodge Of Heavy Leisure.
Ticket includes price of all materials and firing of two pieces each

Join me in my studio from 10:00-12:30 on 20th October for this potters wheel taster session.
Absolute beginners or those with some experience who are looking for a refresher are welcome to join.
What to expect
In this session you will learn a bit about clay properties, how to prep your clay and the foundations to throwing on the wheel. You will get a sense of what its like to throw, and have the satisfaction of making your very own piece.
Whats included
The cost of clay and firing for 2 pieces per person is included with the option to have additional pieces fired for £7 each. All pieces will be fired in either a transparent glossy glaze or speckled white glaze. Pieces will be ready to collect 5-6 weeks from the studio after the class.

What to expect
Join me in the studio for a taster session to get an idea of what it’s like to work with clay. The session will begin with a demonstration of key hand-building techniques, which you’ll use to create your own mug. We’ll then work through the process step by step, guiding you as you construct your piece.
Your mug can also be adapted into other useful items, such as a pen or paintbrush holder, or a toothbrush holder.
Whats Included
The cost of material and firing fee is included in the price of the ticket.
Your work will be ready to collect from the studio approximately 6 weeks after your session.

9th Nov-7th December
This class is aimed at absolute beginners to advanced beginner level. We will focus on hand-building techniques such a pinch, slab and coil.
Week 1 will be an introduction to the key hand-building techniques and a step by step guide on how to apply them to your first piece. I encourage you to come with ideas for objects you would like to make. Those who have taken the class previously are welcome to get right into their main project week 1.
Weeks 2,3,&4 will be spent working on project(s) of your own choosing
Week 5 will be adding finishing touches and colour to your pieces.
The workshop is 3 hours long and held on a weekly basis.
Class includes clay and glazes.
Please note it is an additional £5 per kilo for small items and £10 per kilo for long and wide items. This will cover both bisque and glaze firings.
Classes must have a minimum of 4 people signed up for it to be confirmed
All pieces will be fired and ready by the 21st of December to be collected in time for Christmas
Located in West Dorset between Bridport and Lyme Regis, this studio is my personal making space, which I also open to the public for workshops, weekly classes, and private sessions. I decided upon the name clay and salt ceramics since I wanted a name very clearly tied to pottery hence the clay and ceramics. The salt element was added in ties to the phrase salt of the earth along with the close proximity to the sea. There was also the simple fact that I like how it sounded and looked when written down.

About the Studio
Hi I’m Amelia, the maker behind Clay and Salt. I’ve been working with pottery since I was a child with a break for several years where I worked as a freelance florist in London. I then returned to pottery where I focused on hand building creating vases, lamps and other sculptural objects. More recently I have began to devote more time on the wheel working on a homewares collection. I teach both hand-building and beginner level wheel throwing. I love seeing the broad range of things that students make in my classes bringing their individual flare to each piece they make.
